The 74th Annual National Book Awards is already creating ripples with the news of Drew Barrymore hosting the event and Oprah Winfrey attending it as a guest speaker. With the presence of these renowned individuals, the event seems to be a celebration of women’s power.

The ceremony is about to take place in Manhattan on 15th November 2023. The award, known as the “unofficial Oscars” for writers, will reward writers in different competitive categories. These categories are poetry, fiction, non-fiction, translation literature, and “young people’s literature.”

The confirmation of Drew Barrymore hosting this prestigious literary event came on Tuesday, 25th July, from the National Book Foundation. Drew Barrymore is a powerhouse performer, and she has already bagged a “Screen Actors Guild Award” and “Golden Globe” award.

But beyond that, the actress is an avid reader. She has always praised the books of David Sedaris and Tina Frey. However, Barrymore is not the first film star to host this celebrated literary event. Steve Martin hosted this event many times in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Oprah Winfrey, on the other hand, is a champion in books, and she was previously honored with the Annual National Book Awards. Further, her book club picks have played a vital role in the works of many authors becoming bestsellers.

The National Book Foundation is extremely happy with their association with Drew Barrymore and Oprah Winfrey this time. David Steinberger, chair of the Board of Directors of the National Book Foundation.

says, “Throughout their careers, Drew Barrymore and Oprah Winfrey have each demonstrated their enduring belief that books have the power to change readers’ lives — by opening doors, sparking conversations, and building community,”

He further adds, “This belief echoes the mission of the National Book Foundation to ensure that books have a prominent place in our culture.”

Earlier this year, Drew Barrymore was seen gracing the 24th Mark Twain Prize in Washington. The award held on 19th March 2023 honored American humor.

Workwise, the Charlie’s Angel actor is now busy with her talk show, “The Drew Barrymore Show.” Recently she has also appeared in the TV series, “Princess Power.”
