The U.S. Navy Is Likely To Get The First Woman Lead
An announcement from the White House on the 21st of July drew a lot of attention. The announcement revealed President Joe Biden’s intention to nominate Adm.Lisa Franchetti to lead the U.S. Navy. If it materialized, it would be the first time for the U.S. Navy to have a woman lead in its 247-year history.
When Adm. Lisa Franchetti becomes the lead officer of the U.S. Navy, she will succeed Adm. Michael M. Gilday, who is retiring this summer. Currently, Adm. Lisa Franchetti is the vice chief of the U.S. Navy. She will be acting as the top officer of the U.S. Navy until the Senate confirms the president’s nomination.
However, this process has already been blocked by Tommy Tuberville, the Republican of Alaska, for hundreds of admirals. It’s his way of getting the Pentagon to drop a policy concerning “travel reimbursement” and “time off” for the service members who need to travel outside the state for abortion reasons.
Nevertheless, if Adm. Lisa Franchetti rises to the topmost position in the U.S. Navy, it will be such a great thing. Since the time of the American Revolution and John Paul Jones, the U.S. Navy has always been led by men.
Lloyd J. Austin III, the secretary of defense, expressed that he was proud to know about Adm. Franchetti’s possible nomination to lead the Navy and her permanent membership in the “Joint Chiefs of Staff.”
Expressing his happiness, the secretary of defense said, “She will continue to inspire all of us.”
Adm. Franchetti has already completed thirty years in the service as a commissioned officer. Joe Biden, the president, sounded in all praise for her as he stated that Adm Franchetti has “Demonstrated extensive expertise in both the operational and policy arenas.” She is only the second woman to rise to the rank of four-star admiral in the Navy.”
Adm. Lisa Franchetti has proved her mettle and shone in many key positions. She has been the commander of the U.S. 6th Fleet and U.S. Naval Forces Korea. Also, she has successfully managed the role of “chief of staff for strategy, plans, and policy” with the directorate of Joint Staff J5. So, the recommendations regarding her to be the Joint Chiefs of Staff are obvious and well-deserved.
