Alexandra Celebrates Women Leads A Month Long Walk For Women’s Equality And Honor
For centuries, the United States has continued its journey to establish equality for women. Alexandra Celebrates Women makes an effort to continue this legacy with a month-long walk. The walk will be for establishing equality for women and paying respects to women who have chosen to be different and broken glass ceilings. It is called “Women Going the Extra Mile.”
The walk began on 5th August at 8 am and will continue till 26th August 2023. Gayle Converse, the vice president of the Alexandra Celebrates Women or ACW, will lead the walk. It will be a 133-mile trek from Alexandria to Richmond, and it will make people aware of the issues faced by women in everyday life.
About the walk, Gayle Converse says, “We are walking for women’s equality – in healthcare, at the ballot box, and everywhere else. We honor women and girls of today and throughout history who have broken tradition, social norms, glass ceilings, and gone the extra mile.”
The participants in the walk will reach the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial at Occoquan Regional Park. They will take the East Coast Greenway to Mount Vernon from Kate Waller Barrett Library steps in Alexandria City. From Mount Vernon, they will proceed to Occoquan Regional Park.
The end date of the walk has been picked as August 26, as it commemorates Women’s Equality Day. This day reminds everyone about how women have always fought to achieve equality, and on this very day, the US government gave women the right to vote in 1920. So, this year, it will be the celebration of the 103rd Women’s Equality Day.
The walk supporting women’s equality and honoring women with unconventional choices will come to an end at the Virginia Women’s Monument in Richmond.
Every participant in the walk is likely to have a lifetime experience. It does not matter whether they match a step or walk for the entire stretch. Each step they take will be for women who struggle at every moment but never give up and emerge victorious.
Even if you cannot walk all the way, you can join the initiative as a cycler, runner, or supporter. Alexandra is surely going to have a proud moment celebrating women’s history, health, and other important issues.
