Brittney Griner Focuses On Mental Health And Will Miss At Least Two WNBA Games
Brittney Griner, a gold-medallist Olympian and a seasoned WNBA all-star will miss her road trip with her team as she will be focusing on her mental health. Her team, Phoenix Mercury, will be on a road trip to Indiana and Chicago this week. So, she will not be playing in the two games to be played during this span.
Phoenix Mercury came up with a social media post on 29th July 2022 and it said, “Mercury center Brittney Griner will not travel with the team on its upcoming two-game road trip to Chicago and Indiana (July 30-August 1) to focus on her mental health. The Mercury fully support Brittney and we will continue to work together on a timeline for her return.”
Brittney Griner just returned to her team after her much-hyped detainment in Russia. She was in Russian custody for being accused of drug charges. This gold-medallist athlete had to spend around ten months in prison.
And after that, she was brought back to the USA through a prisoner swap. To have her back in the USA, a high-profile criminal accused of drug dealing was released from the USA custody.
But after a few months of her return, she is now going to miss some matches and a road trip as well. This is disappointing for her fans, but it’s great how her team, Phoenix Mercury, has been very supportive of her.
After she re-signed the contract with her team after the detainment and release, Brittney Griner appeared for the first time in May when Phoenix Mercury played its game against Los Angeles Sparks.
But it took her another month to play in an All-star game since her return from Russian custody.Post her appearance in the All-Star game, Brittney Griner expressed her gratitude for Phoenix Mercury.
She said, “It meant everything to me. I didn’t think that I would be here today, honestly but everybody sending letters, sending love, posting. I’m still seeing it to this day everything that everybody did. It really meant a lot to me, it gave me hope it made me not want to just give it up for anything, so it was this league that helped me out.”
